Bernard Willington
Bernard Willington lives in the heart of rural England. Painting and the study of Art History are his passion. These blend well with his love of travel, which in turn has given an international dimension to his paintings and to his artistic reputation.
Bernard takes his subject matter from what he sees about him. His early landscape paintings frequently depicted English hunting and other country sports. It was while living in Scotland, near St Andrews the home of golf, that he produced his first series of golfing paintings. The quality of his work led to many commissions from American Golf and Country Clubs and his international reputation in this field is now well established.
I prefer to build paint textures from an entirely flat surface. Brushwork and colour can be made to work together to capture atmosphere and mood. Combining an impressionistic approach with well-defined passages also adds to the interest. The most successful paintings carry an implication and atmosphere.
It is hoped that contemplation of what may be implied will add to the enjoyment of my paintings.
