Watercolours Joy Gower

An exhibition of Watercolours by Joy Gower
Private View: Fri 3 July 2009 6pm - 9pm.

Joy was born in Uganda, the 2nd daughter of a medical missionary. Her mother was a teacher with an aptitude for landscape gardening for which she became very well known throughout East Africa.

These factors influenced Joy's love for that country and also for gardens and the countryside.

After training as a nurse and a midwife, Joy worked in the UK and overseas. She attended Watercolour classes for a number of years after her retirement, with Wiltshire Further Education College under Robin Candy .

Many of the flowers she paints are from her own garden, where she attempts to capture their natural growth, the fall of light and shade and the delicacy of the petals.

From her paintings she gives support to the rehabiliation of disabled children and other needs in SW Uganda.
