I was really interested to find the history of Warton Mill on the web. I have been researching my husband's family. John Cole lived at Warton Mill with his wife Eliza and children and appear on the 1851 census next to the Dowse family who owned the mill buildings. John Cole was my husband's grandfather's great-grandfather.
>
> The family probably moved away from Potterne soon after 1851 as Henry John Cole (born in Hungerford 1856) who was John's grandson eventually found his way to South Wales, via Iron Acton in Gloucestershire (1881 census) where the family became established in the new industrial areas. Henry's grandson was Harry Cole - but the name became changed by useage to Coles - who was my husband's father.
>
> It has been so interesting for my husband and myself to find all this information - it adds so much to the family story.
